New This Issue

Welcome to another issue of The Health Plus Letter, one week earlier than I expected to be able to create it. This issue, I’m sharing my experiences using the BioElectric Shield, a wonderful device that I’ve found effectively protects me from harmful electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) and other types of energy pollution. Since obtaining the Shield, I’ve experienced a noticeable improvement in my energy levels after working at my computer all day.

I’m also sharing self-care tips that men can use to protect themselves from BPH (enlarge/ment of the prostate gland). You’ll also find links to two informative articles that are pertinent to your health in my Recommendations section below.

As always, please continue to send me your comments and suggestions. And please spread the word about The Health Plus Letter by passing it along to your friends and inviting them to subscribe.

Fast Fact

Between 1993 to 2002, there has been a 500 percent increase in the number of prescriptions for anti-psychotic drugs (stimulants and antidepressants) issued to children and adolescents, despite the wide range of dangerous side-effects associated with such drugs (which, in addition to physical health problems such as an increased risk of diabetes, unhealthy wei/ght gain, and heart problems, include violent behavior and suicide).

Comment: This finding, which will also be published in this month’s Archives of General Psychiatry, is simply further proof of how Big Pharma is by far the world’s leading drug pusher. Further evidence of this fact can also be found in recent studies which have found that children and teenagers, as well as growing numbers of people who are in middle- and old-age, are more addicted to Big Pharma drugs than they are to illegal drugs.

Protect Yourself From Energy Pollution With the BioElectric ShieldTM

The concept of "energy pollution" in the fo/rm of harmful electromagnetic frequenciesand radiation (EMFs and EMR), environmental stress, and even the energy of  other people, is a health factor that increasing numbers of scientists and physicians have begun to take more seriously in recent years. It's well-known, for instance, that office workers who sit in front of computers all day are more prone to fatigue and susceptible to stress, and the debate still rages over the potentially harmful effects of prolonged and regular cellphone use, including its potential to cause cancer. I rarely use cellphones, so I can't speak to the latter issue, but having spent far too many hours in front of a computer for more than a decade, I can attest how doing so can easily leave one feeling "wiped out." It's for that reason that I decided to experiment with an amulet-like device developed by chiropractic neurologist, Dr. Charles Brown called the BioElectric ShieldTM.

Brown developed the BioElectric Shield following years of patient complaints of stress, fatigue, and muscle tightness in the neck and shoulders. Most of these complaints were vague, in the sense that his patients were unable to specifically account for them. What they all had in common, however, was the fact that they either worked with computers, were in office environments where computers were presnet, worked in an urban area, or were under a fair amount of stress. Looking for a way to help them, Brown had a series of what he describes as "waking dreams," in which he visualized specific crystal patterns. Eventually, the information he gleaned from the visions led him to create the BioElectric Shield, using a matrix of precision cut quartz and other crystals. The function of the Shield is twofold--to shield the wearer in a cocoon of his or her own bioenergy, and to deflect harmful or incompatible energies from any and all external sources, including other people.

Scientifically, the theory behind the the BioElectric Shield is both sound and long- established. In 1914, for instance, Max von Laue won the Nobel Pr.ize in Physics for showing that x-rays could be reflected and redirected using zinc-sulfide crystals, in much the same way that a mirror can reflect and redirect light. A year later, the same Pr.ize was awarded to William Bragg for his establishment of "Bragg's Law," which can be used to determine the precise lattice spacing of crystals needed to reflect and redirect any type of electromagnetic energy. Since then, scientists have used crystals to reflect and redirect many other types of electromagnetic radiation, including gamma rays. In addition, it is clearly established that the human body has its own energy field and frequency, which, when healthy, resonates at about 8-10 cycles per second. This frequency is very similar to that of the earth. By contrast, the energies of technological devices, such as microwaves, TVs, power lines, hair dryers, and flourescent lights, to name only a few, resonate at much higher frequencies which can impinge upon, and in many cases, negatively impact, human bioenergy.

To verify the health-enhancing effects of the BioElectric Shield, Brown has worked closely with a medical intuitive who is capable of perceiving the human energy field in great detail. Moreover, he and other colleagues have, since 1990, tested over 12,000 people using the Shield. The results of these studies are quite impressive. Using applied kinesiology, Brown and his associates have found that of the thousands of volunteers they have tested, 98 percent of them show significant muscle weakness simply from holding a cellphone. But within moments of wearing a Shield, their strength returns to normal, and in many cases, even improves.

In another test, a computerized acupuncture device capable of measuring 50 different acupuncture points in the body was employed. After three weeks of wearing the Shield, subjects showed improvements ranging from 108 to 400 percent in immune function, allergy points, and the liver, kidney, gall bladder, and stomach systems. In two other controlled, double-blind studies, researchers demonstrated that all 50 subjects who were tested showed a significant increase in strength levels while wearing the Shield, as compared to strength levels when wearing a placebo device.

From a conventional physician's point of view, perhaps the two most impressive tests are those that involved medical testing instruments used in many hospitals and medical clinics around the country. The first involved a dynamometer, a device used by occupational therapists to test finger strength. 50 test subjects were pretested using the dynamometer, then tested again after wearing the Shield for only one minute. 33 of the test subjects showed a 24 percent increase in finger strength. Next, the subjects were tested for their reaction to visualized stress, another area that occupational therapistsroutinely investigate. The strength of the opponens muscle in the hands of 50 volunteers was pre-tested, then they were asked to visualize personally stressful situations. Upon retesting, it was found that 47 of the subjects had significantly weakened hand strength. Further testing found that all 47 of them regained their strength after one minute of wearing the Shield, even though they continued to visualize the same stressful situations.

In the other test, computerized myography, a type of EMG employed by physical therapists to assess muscle test, was used with 25 subjects. Each subject was instructed to sit before a computer screen, after first being tested to establish his or her baseline muscle strength. After 5 minutes before the screen, the subjects showed an average loss of muscle strength of 17 percent. They were then given a Shield to wear. Within an additional 5 minutes, the subjects showed an average gain in strength of over 44 percent, and 21 of the subjects were actually stronger on this final reading than they were during their initial baseline test.

What makes these studies even more intriguing is the fact that upwards of 30 percent of the test subjects were unable to subjectively notice when their muscle strength weakened or when it improved, even though the testing devices clearly documented when either change occurred. In other words, it's not uncommon for wearers of the BioElectric Shield to not notice any improvements despite the fact that its benefits have scientifically been verified.

My own experience with the BioElectric Shield has been intriguing, as well. When I first received it, I had been experiencing discomfort in my lower right abdominal area that I attributed to weeks of heavy workload, not enough sleep, and poor eating habits as I crammed to meet my deadlines. A few days earlier, I had made it a point to start rectifying the situation, especially in terms of my diet, but the pain, whatever it was, persisted. Fortunately, it was more an irritant than anything serious.

The Shield arrived just as I was about to make a five-hour drive, so I took the package with me. Coming to a stoplight, I opened the package and just had time to pull out the Shield when the light changed. I drove off, holding it in my left hand. A few seconds later, I felt a tingle of energy in my hand; then a wave of warmth completely enveloped the area of discomfort in my abdomen. To say the least, I was astonished, and became even more so when the warmth intensified for a few minutes more, then completely disappeared. With it went my pain. I couldn't explain what had happened, but I wasn't about to discount it, either. I quickly pulled into the first parking spot I found in order to place the Shield around my neck, where I've worn it regularly ever since. (The pain, incidentally, did not return.)

Since that time, I haven’t experienced anything as dramatic as what happened the first time I used the Shield. Yet I can definitely say that I can definitely n.o.w sit at the computer for long hours, without feeling fatigued anymore. Additionally, each morning when I put the Shield on, I very briefly tend to feel that same tingle of energy as I did initially. And I do notice that I am more tired than usual after a long period of writing on the days that I forget to wear it.

Is the BioElectric Shield a magic talisman that will resolve all of your health problems? No. Even so, it would be foolish to discount the amount of research documenting its value, along with the many un/solicited letters that Brown and his staff continue to receive testifying to improvements in a wide range of conditions. (Most commonly, these include improved energy, reduced stress, better circulation, no more jet lag, more balanced mental and emotional states, and increased resistance to disease.) Based on my own experience using it, I would particularly recommend the BioElectric Shield to anyone in an office setting, especially computer users, and I suspect that Dr. Brown's research has laid the foundation for the further development of other such energy-enhancing devices in the near future. Because of my positive results, I’m happy to be able to make the BioElectric Shield available to my readers. To obtain one, go to http://www.mcssl.com/app/aftrack.asp?afid=408491

Self-Care Tips for Dealing With BPH (Enlarged Prostate)

Benign prostatic hyperplasia, also known as benign prostatic hypertrophy, or simply BPH, is a commonly-occurring condition among men 45 years and older. By age 45, approximately 50 percent of all males in the United States have some degree of BPH. It is characterized by an enlarged and/or inflamed prostate gland that makes normal urination difficult. The prostate gland, which is located at the base of the bladder and surrounds the urethra, produces substances that protect and enhance the functions of sperm cells, and also helps to protect the entire genitourinary system against infection and disease.

By age 70, 80 percent of all men in the U.S. experience BPH. As a result, most conventional physicians consider it to be a natural consequence of aging, a view that is disputed by practitioners of natural medicine.

Symptoms of BPH

The most common early signs of BPH are an increased need to urinate, especially at night. As the condition progresses, being able to urinate can become increasingly difficult, both in terms of beginning and stopping. Other symptoms include dribbling, burning sensations while urinating, and have the sensation that the bladder isn’t completely emptied despite recently urinating. In some cases, infections of the bladder, kidneys, or prostate (prostatitis) can also occur, as can urinary incontinence, which is estimated to affect as many as three percent of all men who suffer from BPH. In certain cases, BPH can be so severe that complete urination becomes impossible, posing the risk of kidney failure.

Caution: If you experience symptoms of BPH along with any of the following symptoms—bone pain, blood in the urine, and/or inexplicable wei/ght loss—seek prompt medical attention.

Causes of BPH

BPH is caused by the abnormal overgrowth or swelling of prostate tissue. As this occurs, eventually it begins to block the opening of the bladder, known as the urethra. One of the primary causes of prostate tissue overgrowth is changes in hormone levels, specifically a reduction in testosterone and an increase in dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a more active type of testosterone that is associated with increased risk of both BPH and prostate cancer. Because of this, many holistic physicians regard BPH as prostate cancer that is waiting to happen.

The increase in DHT is due to a hormone known as prolactin that is produced by the pituitary gland. As prolactin is secreted, it triggers activity of the enzyme that converts testosterone inot DHT. Chronically excessive production of prolactin therefore can play a significant role in the onset and progression of BPH. In addition, prolactin production is known to increase during times of emotional stress and alcohol production, particularly beer. Chronic constipation can also cause or contribute to BPH and exacerbate its symptoms.

Other factors that can cause or worsen BPH include poor diet, nutritional deficiencies,  environmental toxins, and congestion in the lymphatic system, especially in the lymph nodes that surround the prostate gland.

Prevention

Prevention is the best approach for dealing with BPH, as well as for all other male health conditions associated with the prostate and male s.e.x organs. This includes having a regular (yearly) physical examine that includes both a digital rectal exam and, for men over 40, a blood test to determine your PSA (prostate specific antigen) score, which is especially useful for screening for signs of prostate enlarge/ment. (Note: The PSA test is also commonly used to screen for prostate cancer, but in recent years has been found to be ineffective for this purpose, to the point where even its developer no longer recommends that it be used as a marker for prostate cancer.) Other useful diagnostic tests you can consider, depending on your symptoms, include urinalysis, ultrasound, and other blood tests that can help determine you immune status. Hormone testing should also be considered for all men over 40 years old.

Other preventive measures including eating a healthy diet, proper nutritional supplementation, and regular (at least three times per week) exercise. In addition, practice safe s.e.x, using a condom to avoid infection.

Self-Care

Aromatherapy: The following essential oils can help to reduce symptoms of BPH: bergamot, chamomile, sandalwood, and tea tree oil.

Ayurveda: Ashwagandha, an Ayurvedic herb, can help to relieve symptoms.

Diet: Avoid foods that are high in unhealthy saturated fats and low in fiber. Also avoid alcohol, caffeine, simple carbohydrates, sugars and sugar products, hydrogenated and partially-hydrogenated oil fats and oils, margarine, shortening, and all processed and commercial “junk” food. Instead, emphasize a diet of organic whole foods, with plenty of fresh, raw fruits and vegetables, oats, whole grains, and nuts and seeds, especially pumpkin and sunflower seeds. Minimize your intake of red meat, but be sure to consume adequate amounts of organic, free-range poultry and wild-caught fish. Throughout the day, also drink plenty of pure, filtered water, and avoid drinking—as well as bathing, and showering in—unfiltered tap water, because tap water contains heavy metals and pesticide residues that can settle in high concentrations in the prostate gland, causing a variety of prostate problems. Also avoid foods that are overly spicy.

Flower Essences: Crab Apple and Pine can be both useful for men with prostate problems.

Herbs: Useful herbs for preventing and treating BPH include saw palmetto (Serenoa repens), Pygeum africanum, and nettle root (Urtica diocia). Milk thistle can also be helpful because of its ability to detoxify the liver and improve hormone balance.

Homeopathy: Useful homeopathic remedies for BPH include Apis mellifica, causticum, chiaphilla umbellate, clematis, lycopodium, pulsatilla, and thuja.

Hydrotherapy: A contrast hot and cold sitz ba/th two to five times a week can help to improve blood flow to the pe.nis and prostate and strengthen the overall health of the male genital system.

Juice Therapy: Combine red cabbage, celery, and lettuce juice, and drink 8 ounces twice a day.

Lifestyle: Be sure to exercise regularly, at least three times a week for 30 minutes each time. Avoid bicycling, however, as this can place pressure on the prostate gland.

Also take care to properly manage stress and reduce your overall stress levels.

Engaging in regular s.e.x (two to four times a week) with your partner can also be helpful, as s.e.x helps to reduce the buildup of pressure on the prostate. If you don’t have a s.e.x partner, masturbation can also help.

Nutritional Supplements: Useful nutrients for treating and preventing BPH include vitamin B3 (niacin), B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, magnesium, manganese, and zinc. The amino acid L-arginine is also recommended, as are alpha-lipoic acid and a trace mineral formula, as well as omega-3 oils, evening primrose oil, and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Garlic capsules, acidophilus, and hydrochloric acid (HCl) can also be helpful, as can Wobenzyme, to help protect against inflammation. Other helpful nutrients include the amino acids alanine, glutamic acid, and glycine, as well as beta-sitosterol.

Glandular therapy can also help to significantly relieve prostate problems. Extracts of bovine (cattle) or porcine (pig) prostatic tissue taken orally or administered intramuscularly provides essential nutrients and growth factors to the gland. Glandular therapy can also help protect against circulating auto-antibodies caused by infection and diminished immune function.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM): TCM practitioners consider prostate problems to be caused by a combination of stress, nutritional deficiencies, low hormone levels, and diminished kidney function. To resolve such problems, they recommend a treatment program that includes acupuncture, traditional Chinese herbs, such as ginseng and lotus seed, meditation, and Tai chi and Qigong.

Reader Feedback (Gut Instinct and Bird Flu)

I received a number of emails regarding my article on gut instinct as a way of discerning fact from fiction (see last issue of the Health Plus Letter). These are two of them, along with my replies.

Cosette T writes:

<<How ironic that at the very time you've written on 'gut instinct,' I've had running thoughts about getting your opinion on the avian flu pandemic predictions. We all know what the 1918 flu did. No one wants a repeat of that. My question is, how likely is a repeat? Or better, is this prediction fueled by Big Pharma to sell vaccines and Tamiflu-type drugs? An 'expert', Dr. Oster-something or other, on Oprah yesterday, warned the nation of this impending pandemic, stating it may not be the avian flu but it will definetely be some type of flu and that our gov't is totally unprepared and mil/lions are going to die worldwide. Also, that those with the strongest immune systems will suffer the highest mortality because in this type of influenza, the immune system goes into 'overdrive'  and brings into play all body systems and organs.

What are your 'gut instincts' about this, Larry?>>

Hi, Cosette - turning your question around, what is your own gut instinct about bird flu, etc?

I personally believe it's another hoax ala SARS that serves at least two purposes:

1) major pro/fits for Big Pharma (already accomplished with Tamaflu and it's only going to increase due to Congress passing a law late last year that completely indemnifies Big Pharma against lawsuits for damages caused by dangerous vaccines—this will allow them to rush all sorts of crap to market, much of which will be purchased by governments at taxpayer expense), and

2) All of the hype surrounding bird flu and other so-called epidemics further conditions the public to except unconstitional measures such as marshall law and mass quarantine, both of which have been bandied about as "necessary measures" were such an outbreak to occur.

As for the issue of immunity, of the 114 people (my last count as of a few weeks ago) worldwide said to have died from bird flu (over a multiyear period, which pointedly reveals how little impact bird flu has had so far), all of them regularly worked under unsanitary conditions, making it highly likely that they suffered from compromised immunity. At best, the flu-strain was merely a co-factor that tipped the scales towards death, not the cause of death itself.

Again, however, don't believe me or anyone else without checking in with yourself to perceive whether or not what we say is factual.

Lorraine A writes:

<<Thanks for the interesting writing on truth/gut level understanding. There is a certain knowledge that does come to light when we stay in the truth as we know it. I have often and for a long time had the experience you write about. I have a difficult time not being frank about reality and therefore I know I come off as tactless or too honest or whatever and it does make people uncomfortable. Over the years,as I age, I have tempered my  verbal reactions so that I do not hurt others ( I hope).  Oft times that means leaving the truth unspoken.

I also witness such a lack of integrity among our leadership. I no longer experience awe where others are concerned. Whether it be government officials or Church hierarchy (priests). With my customers and trade people I do business with….workmen...the list goes on.

I have no idea why I am sharing this with you except that you awakened the thoughts with your writing and it is something I have not reflected on in quite a while.>>

I really enjoyed your email, Lorraine. Thank you for taking the time to share it with me. Sounds like you are among those of us who are coming to recognize just how important it is to speak our truth regardless of the consequences.

Books:
The Journey Through Cancer: Healing and Transforming the Whole Person, 2nd edition by Jeremy Geffen, MD.
In all of my conversations with physicians who treat cancer nonconventionally, and who have far higher success rates than those typically achieved by conventional oncologists (especially for late stage cancer), I’ve been told that the most important factor for determining how well their patients’ do is the positive shift in consciousness that usually precedes remission or, as in the case of my sister (who elected to be treated conventionally) results in a peaceful acceptance of their situation and a healing despite the death of their physical bodies. All of the long-term cancer survivors that I’ve met and interviewed have told me the same thing.

Jeremy Geffen is a friend of mine from grade and high school whose own spiritual journey eventually led him to not only embrace this fact, but to also discover the seven specific stages of healing that all patients facing a serious health threat inevitably pass through, whether they have cancer or not. In the years that he practiced as a leading integrative oncologist, Jeremy did all that he could to assist his patients to consciously and proactively pass through each of these stages. In The Journey Through Cancer, n.o.w completely revised and updated, he shares many effective techniques that anyone can use to more completely be healed. Though there are other books that do a better job of covering and explaining viable alternative therapies for cancer, I know of no other book that so effectively and gracefully provides the roadmap of healing in all levels of our being—body, mind and spirit—that you will find in The Journey Through Cancer. Moreover, I witnessed firsthand how powerful the teachings Jeremy shares can be, as this book played a very important role in my sister’s own journey through cancer. Of all the books she read, she more than once told me it was “the best one” she ever read. I give it my highest endorsement.

Live at the Forbidden City by Dennis Rea. Written by my childhood friend, Dennis Rea, an extremely talented musician and composer, this book is a marvelous adventure story recounting the years Dennis spent in China and Taiwan during the 1990s, initially and ostensibly as a teacher of English, but soon thereafter as a highly regarded musician who performed throughout China and Taiwan and became the first Westerner to record an album in China during its communist era. At the same time, it is a firsthand account of a time of great political and social upheaval in China written from Dennis’s unique vantage point. I highly recommend it. (Currently it is only available from amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, and iUniverse.com.)

The following links will take you to articles that I found very interesting, and which I think you will be interested in too.

http://www.counterpunch.org/pringle05102006.html - This link will take you to a story about how Pfizer, the world’s largest pharmaceutical company, knowingly and illegally marketed its growth hormone drug Genotropin in order to boost company pro/fits. Genotropin is a potentially dangerous drug capable of causing very serious side effects, especially among the target populations Pfizer marketed it to. This story provides an excellent overview of the criminal depths Big Pharma will resort to in order to stuff their already bulging coffers. What makes this story all the more interesting is that Pfizer’s illegal actions were first brought into the spotlight by the company’s former vice president, Dr. Peter Rost. As a result, he was unceremoniously fired. Needless to say, thus far the FDA has done nothing about this.

http://www.peer.org/news/news_id.php?row_id=691 - Big Pharma is not the only vested interest posing threats to our health. This link will take you to a recent press release issued by representatives for thousands of scientists who work for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to protest the unwarranted influence of pesticide manufacturers (Big Chem) and Big Farming companies, both of which want the EPA to approve a host of toxic pesticides for use in the environment. Under the Bush administration, the EPA has significantly veered away from its mission to protect the health of US citizens and their environment. This press release explains how this sad turn of events is being accomplished.

That’s all for this week.
