New This Issue

Welcome to another issue of The Health Plus Letter. This week I’m continuing to excerpt from my latest book, Juice Alive: The Ultimate Guide to Juicing Remedies, this time sharing with you a delicious and extremely healthy smoothie developed by my friend and co-author, Dr. Steven Bailey.

Also in this issue is an article I am once again taking Dr. Andrew Weil to task for his very irresponsible comments about Gardasil. I’m also sharing self-care tips you can use to prevent and relieve muscle cramps.

Finally, I’m once again tackling the topic of global warming, beginning with an article on why I am doing so, followed by my response to one of my readers on this subject, and a multitude of website links where you can learn more about both sides of the story. As I hope I make clear below, the current global warming hysteria is not only unfounded, it potentially can lead to a wide variety of unhappy consequences for all of us.

As always, please continue to send me your comments and suggestions. And please spread the word about The Health Plus Letter by passing it along to your friends and inviting them to subscribe.

Dr. Steven Bailey’s Power Smoothie

The following smoothie was initially developed by Dr. Steven Bailey for his cancer and AIDS patients, many of whom were taking up to 150 supplements a day in capsule and tablet form. Despite such an intensive regimen of nutritional supplementation, most of these patients were unable to derive much benefit from the supplements they were taking because their bodies were unable to properly digest and assimilate them. Dr. Bailey’s Power Smoothie solves that problem by providing an abundance of essential nutrients in a tasty drink that is easily digested and absorbed. By including vitamins, essential fats, proteins and other nutrients into a tasty smoothie, optimizing your nutritional status is easy.

The basic formula for Dr. Bailey’s Power Smoothie is to add:

  • 2-4 opened capsules of vitamin/enzyme complex
  • 5 drops of natural liquid beta-carotene
  • 1 tablespoon organic, cold pressed flaxseed or flaxseed/sunflower seed oil (borage, evening primrose, fish oil, or hemp can also be used)
  • 1 teaspoon lecithin granules or powder
  • 1 tablespoon soy-free vegetable protein powder

(For sources for these products see the Resources section at the back of this book.) You can then add various fruits and other super foods of your choice to the above ingredients and blend them all together.

While only supplying one meal's worth of calories, the Power Smoothie provides the same amount of nutrients that are typically found in six healthy meals. The fresh fruits and juices, combined with the digestive enzymes, make the digestive effort of this smoothie much less than is required for a typical breakfast. As a result, improved energy and endurance is quickly felt when the Power Smoothie is consumed for at least five days a week. It is appropriate for both children and adults. For young children, however, reduce the amount of all of the above ingredients by one-third.

A unique feature of Dr. Bailey’s Power Smoothie is that the flax oil, lecithin, and proteins it contains act synergistically when combined with the body’s naturally occurring serum cholesterol. Together, these four nutrients make up 95 percent of your body’s cell wall membranes. The brain is also a comprised of a higher level of cholesterol, lecithin and essential fats. When these three ingredients are combined and absorbed with the Power Smoothie they act synergistically to create new cells, repair cell membranes, and produce a more fluid membrane that is both more resistant to stress and free radical damage and has greater membrane permeability, thus enhancing cellular energy and waste excretion. The end result is literally a “fountain of youth,” anti-aging effect at the cellular level.

Flaxseed oil is a rich source of omega-6 fatty acids and, to a lesser but still significant extent, omega-3 fatty acids, both of which protect against many chronic diseases and inflammatory states. Omega-3 and omega-6 oils are also the oils that plants utilize in the energy production of photosynthesis and are therefore highly sensitive to heat and sunlight, which is why flaxseed oil is not suitable for cooking. Sunflower oil is richer in omega-3's than flaxseed oil is and a blend of cold pressed sunflower and flaxseed provides a better balance of both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Fish oils are even richer in omega-3s than either flaxseed or sunflower oil, and are therefore recommended for people suffering from inflammatory conditions that can cause degenerative diseases such as arteriosclerosis. Borage, evening primrose, and hemp oils are also rich in essential fats.

The liquid natural beta-carotene used to make the Power Smoothie is approximately three times as potent, in terms of being metabolically active and absorbable, than capsule or tablet forms of beta-carotene. Beta-carotene, along with zinc (which is included in the vitamin/enzyme complex), is a primary nutrient involved in genetic (DNA) transcription. By including both of them in the Power Smoothie, you can help your body to experience faster cell regeneration and improved genetic activity.

Another health benefit of the Power Smoothie lies in its ability to improve both fat and protein digestion. While regularly drinking fresh, organic juices usually results in improved digestion and absorption overall, juices do not provide much benefit when it comes to digesting fats and proteins, making the Power Smoothie an excellent complementary beverage for helping in these areas. In addition, the blend of protein powder and oil makes the Power Smoothie appropriate for people who suffer from candidiasis (systemic yeast overgrowth, also known as candida) and who are unable to tolerate juices and other smoothies due to their natural sugar content.

Self-Care Tips for Dealing with Muscle Cramps

Muscles cramps are caused by chronic contraction or abnormal toning of the muscles, of which there are three types: skeletal, smooth, and heart. Symptoms of muscle cramps include tightness in the muscle, pain, and/or tingling and burning in the affected area.

Everyone experiences muscle cramping at some time, but those who are most prone to it tend to live a sedentary lifestyle, do not exercise regularly, lack magnesium-rich foods in their diet (especially green vegetables) and/or eat an excess of foods that reduce calcium, such as animal foods, grains, soda, caffeinated beverages, refined sugars, and processed foods high in phosphates.

What To Consider

Muscle cramps can be due to lack of exercise; low thyroid function; deficiencies in iron, magnesium, calcium, vitamin E, and/or folic acid; dietary imbalances; food allergies; excessive coffee consumption; poor posture; spinal problems; uncomfortable footwear; past injury; stress; poor circulation; heart problems; general fatigue; diabetes; and/or arthritis. If muscle cramping becomes chronic, all of these factors need to be screened for and, if present, addressed.

Note: Diuretic medications can worsen muscle cramps and spasms because of their tendency to deplete the body of essential minerals, particularly potassium, calcium, and magnesium, and may create worse muscle spasms.

Self-Care

Diet:
Eat an organic, whole foods diet that is high in calcium-rich and magnesium-rich foods, such as green leafy vegetables, fruits (particularly apricots), organic yogurt, kefir, millet, raw nuts and seeds, and raw organic honey. Minimize your intake of citrus fruits, meats, and grains. Overall, you want your diet to be one that supports alkalinity and minimizes acidity, so you need to make sure each meal of the day is high in fruit or vegetable content. Also eliminate coffee and other caffeine drinks and drink plenty of pure filtered water throughout the day.

Nutritional Supplementation: The following nutrients are very helpful for relieving and preventing muscle cramps: calcium, magnesium, potassium, silica, trace minerals, a multimineral supplement, vitamin B complex, vitamin B1, vitamin B3 (niacin), folic acid, vitamin C, vitamin E, and chlorophyll.

Muscle cramps, particularly in the calf muscles, can also occur because of a lack of sodium in the body. To prevent this, take a half a teaspoon of organic sea salt or Celtic salt in a glass of water once a day.

Aromatherapy: Rosemary, lavender, marjoram, chamomile, or clary sage essential oil massaged into the affected area can provide rapid relief of most muscle cramping.

Flower Essences: Rescue Remedy Cream applied topically over the affected area.

Herbs: As its name suggests, cramp bark tea is an excellent herbal remedy for preventing and relieving muscle cramps. A tincture of equal parts lobelia and cramp bark can also be applied topically to soothe the affected muscles.

Hydrotherapy: Hot packs, Epsom salt packs or baths, sitz baths, and/or a full, hot bath can hasten recovery from muscle cramps. For nighttime leg cramps, soak in a hot bath for 20-30 minutes before going to bed, then stretch your legs.

Juice Therapy: Carrot, beet, celery, and cucumber juice can provide your body with vital nutrients to minimize your risk of cramping.

Topical Treatment: Massage cramping muscles with a mixture of grated ginger juice and equal parts olive or sesame oil. Repeat as needed throughout the day.

Dr. Andrew Weil: Still A Danger To Your Health?

It’s become increasingly obvious to me that Dr. Andrew Weil, whose website (
www.drweil.com) declares him to be “your trusted health advisor,” is anything but! I have never had much respect for Weil, despite his stature as a so-called expert on what he calls integrative medicine, because by and large I’ve always sensed that his primary concern is self-promotion. Additionally, Weil likes to pass himself off as an expert on just about anything under the alternative medicine umbrella, as well as medicine in general, when in fact he is sadly uninformed and, in some cases, just plain wrong, about various health topics. Were he more honest, he would admit that his area of expertise is ethnobotany and leave it at that. Unfortunately, Weil is typical of a certain class of so-called health experts who achieve mainstream success in that, once he did so, he made sure to perpetuate it, to the point where he is today a thriving cottage industry of one.

This is not the first time I’ve criticized Weil in The Health Plus Letter. Last year, I took him to task for his woefully uninformed rejection of the work of Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski as well as his support of fluoridation in our nation’s water supply. (See
http://www.1healthyworld.com/eZine/vol4no22.cfm.) Since then, I hadn’t paid attention to Weil until last week, when I learned that he has given an enthusiastic thumbs up to Gardasil, the potentially very dangerous and, in my opinion, wholly unnecessary, Merck vaccine that supposedly prevents HPV infection and therefore, it’s alleged, cervical cancer. I wrote about the dangers of Gardasil last week (see http://www.1healthyworld.com/eZine/vol5no4.cfm), pointing out not only its potential to cause serious side-effects, but also how, if government officials make it mandatory (as they now seem ready to do in approximately 20 states), the drug will prove to be a huge financial winner for Merck, which is in need of a cash infusion after its Vioxx atrocity (my term for the deaths of tens of thousands of people who used that drug, which the FDA has so far done nothing about).

According to Weil, however, Gardasil is just wonderful, thank you very much. On his website, in response to a question about Gardasil, Weil sings its praises. To whit: “
According to the FDA, side effects [of Gardasil] are mild - the worst appear to be some temporary tenderness or pain at the injection site.” And: “This [Gardasil] is a big public health step forward. The vaccine undoubtedly will save millions of lives around the world among your daughter's generation and future generations of women.” To which I can only reply, Is Weil nuts or is he now a shill for Merck? First of all, his comments about the mild side effects are incorrect (although he is no doubt accurate when he states this is what the FDA says). The pilot studies that led to the FDA’s approval of Gardasil already made that clear, as I pointed out last week in my own comments about the vaccine.

As I also pointed out, cervical cancer, which is what Gardasil is being sold as a deterrent to, is actually a comparatively rare form of cancer. In the US, approximately 10,000 women develop it each year, with approximately 3,000 to 4,000 dying from it. Certainly those deaths should not be trivialized. However, for Weil to enthusiastically proclaim that Gardasil “undoubtedly will save millions of lives around the world” among this and future generations of women is, at the very least, absurd hyperbole. Do the math. Even if Gardasil is effective at preventing cervical cancer (and there is no definitive proof that it is; all it is approved for is as a protection against a few strains of the approximately 100 types of human papilloma virus (HPV), yet, according to
National Cancer Institute (NCI), there is no actual proof that HPV directly causes cervical cancer), it would take between 250 and 300 years for Gardisal to prevent one million cervical cancer deaths in the US, let alone the “millions” that Weil mentions. (I don’t have the statistics for cervical cancer worldwide. Obviously, the years involved would decrease if world stats are taken into account, yet even then they would be significant.)

Such hyperbole on Weil’s part is irresponsible. And his unawareness of the true potential severity of the side effects Gardasil has been shown to cause is far more so. No one proclaiming themselves to be “your trusted health advisor” should be allowed to get away with dispensing such ridiculous and potentially very harmful advice. Yet Weil does so. So please be advised. When it comes to reputable health information, there are much better sources than Weil.

Why I Am Covering Global Warming

My decision to cover global warming last week certainly struck a cord among my readers. The vast majority of responses I received were positive, with most of them thanking me for pointing out the other side of the story. A few readers took exception to my efforts, though, with one of them writing to say he’d unsubscribed himself from The Health Plus Letter because he didn’t think writing about non-health issues was appropriate for me to do. I thanked him for writing and regret that he’s no longer among my readers. Even so, he raised a good point. Why am I writing about global warming?

The answer is simply because the issue interests me and the ‘Plus’ in this newsletter’s title has always been an indication that it may cover more than direct health issues (I often recommend novels and non-health nonfiction books, as an example). Yet, for me, the global warming debate is related to our health for a variety of reasons. First is that it clearly reveals how far advocates of the manmade theory of global warming are willing to go to impose their so-called solutions.

So far, the most extreme of these have come from people outside the US, such as Gordon Brown and other politicos in England. Brown, for instance, has called for a global warming tax to be imposed, not only on British citizens, but everyone else in the world, to pay for the cost of implementing the rush to minimize CO2 production (a pretty neat trick, by the way, given that you and I and everyone else produce CO2 every day simply by breathing!). Brown’s call for such a tax opens up an interesting Pandora’s box. Namely the fact that, were it imposed globally, it could only be collected by the UN. Under such a scenario, guess what happens? National sovereignty goes out the window. Which, I’m convinced, is one of the primary goals of the elites, as I call them, who control things behind the scenes. Nothing would make them happier than to create a socialistic one-world government of limited personal freedoms, leaving them free to hoard most of the world’s wealth and resources. As it is, they have already achieved this to a large extent, but not as much as they would if national sovereignty becomes a thing of the past.

Returning to the British politicos, Brown and other English leaders have also called for all homes in England becoming carbon neutral. Naturally, this can only be achieved at great cost. Included in this mandate, should it be adopted (I ask that my readers “across the pond” please keep me posted about this), is the demand that all light bulbs used in England be compact fluorescent bulbs, which are supposedly the most environmentally friendly light bulbs around. Except for the fact that they aren’t. You see, not only do the bulbs cost more to operate, compared to regular light bulbs, unlike regular bulbs, they also contain mercury, a highly toxic substance. So, how will these bulbs be disposed of and, if they are recycled, what will the cost of doing so be, since it will require handling toxic material? Not to worry, I’m sure Brown et. al. will call for further taxes down the road to pay for such incidentals.

Needless to say, these so-called solutions are likely only the tip of the iceberg. The biggest cheerleader on the side of the global warming alarmists, as I think of them, is of course Al Gore, who is testifying before Congress as I write this. In his opening remarks before the Congrssional committee, Gore called global warming a “true planetary emergency,” showing that he still prefers hyperbole to actual scientific fact. Gore loves to position himself as a concerned environmentalist, but his personal actions belie that pose. For example, it’s now known that his home in Tennessee consumes an average of 20 times more energy than is normal for the average US citizen. When this was publicized a few weeks ago, the Gore camp said exposing that fact was an attack on him and that in actuality, Gore conscientiously lives a “carbon neutral” lifestyle because he purchased carbon offsets in direct proportion to the energy he consumed. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Except for the fact that a) carbon offsets as they currently exist are a hoax (for more on this, see some of the links in the Recommendations section below) and b) Gore actually profits from his so-called carbon offset lifestyle and from the many others who are now following in his footsteps. In other words, Mr. Gore doesn’t walk his talk. Surprised? You shouldn’t be, since the fact of the matter is that Gore has long been an environmental hypocrite. The following two links document one of the more egregious examples that this is so:
http://www.ohiocitizen.org/campaigns/wti/jennl.html and http://www.oilempire.us/wti.html.

Gore also apparently in the past had no trouble pocketing $500,000 in royalties for the shares in a polluting zinc mine located near his home. He also refuses to debate those who don’t agree with his assumptions, most notably Christopher Monckton of England, who a few days ago challenged him to partake in an internationally televised debate at the Victorian-Gothic Library of the Oxford Museum of Natural History. As for his Congressional testimony, apparently he refused to submit his testimony in advance—a standard procedure; usually those who testify before Congress submit their testimony within 48 hours of their appearance. Gore balked at this, asking to do so only 24 hours beforehand. That was agreed to, yet, as of yesterday evening at 8pm, he still hadn’t done so, despite being scheduled to testify today. Critics are already claiming that his refusal to follow the rules on this matter is due to the fact that he doesn’t want those who will interview him to have time to sufficiently look into and possibly rebut his intended statements. Are these the actions of a man confident in his facts? Not to me. Instead, they smack completely of hucksterism.

All of this is bothersome enough, yet is hardly the bulk of the problem. What bothers me most is the level of demagoguery those who claim global warming is a manmade crisis have no problem stooping to whenever they are asked to defend their stance with facts. Since, in large measure, they cannot do so, they very often resort to the same ruthless and unfair “swift boat” tactics that they take umbrage over when said tactics are used by Karl Rove and company. For example, people such as myself, who do not accept that global warming is either manmade or a crisis (though we certainly do agree that the planet is currently warming, as it has on and off for thousands of years or more) are now being equated with Holocaust deniers and called shills for Big Oil, “Bush liars,” “bushitters,” (the last two terms directed at me personally after I posted comments to blogs at HuffingtonPOst.com), etc. Sadly, for this very reason, reputable scientists and others who also do not accept global warming “crisis” are now choosing to keep their mouths shut, being marginalized and characterized as fringe or irresponsible scientists, and/or seeing their funding cut off. This is what happens when science becomes subordinate to politics, and obviously the global warming issue is not the only example of this. It also happens, for instance, when it comes to the field alternative medicine.

And that is why I am really writing about global warming now. Because the same draconian measures and knee-jerk attacks on the so-called dissenters in the global warming arena are also very much in play when it comes to our health and health freedoms now that the world’s governments are more in bed with Big Pharma than ever before. Try being an honest researcher who uncovers an innovative and non-drug approach for treating cancer, for example, and see what happens. I can guarantee that you won’t get the funding you desire to pursue your discovery, or if you do, don’t be surprised to suddenly find yourself being offered a lot more money to make your discovery go away. Or perhaps you’ll find your reputation being attacked as you are branded a “quack” from Big Pharma mouthpieces (disguised as disinterested doctors and scientists) in the media. You may even be hauled into court and bankrupted as your attempt to legally defend yourself against charges that you are acting dangerously irresponsible. None of these possibilities are merely theoretical. I personally know doctors who were successfully treating cancer and other diseases who have faced all of them (except for the offer of Big Pharma money to keep their mouths shut). All of which sets a very dangerous precedence for the slow but surely current push by our elected officials to create a socialistic form of health care that will not only marginalize alternative medicine but, in many cases, restrict it altogether.

Additionally, what's blatantly obvious to me is how flawed the manmade CO2 equals global warming argument is, given the myriad dynamic interrelationships that exist in weather systems. Making such a minute factor the prime villian/cause is akin to the same mistake made by allopathic medicine, the approach of which completely fails to take into account the similar complex interrelationships that are necessary maintain the health of the body, positing instead that drugs that target only one or a few of the many co-factors that can influence both health and disease are the prime solution. As Salvador Dali so wisely said, "Specialization is for insects," yet so many within the sciences, government, and industry seem hell-bent on perpetuating myopic scenarios that completely jettison anything to do with holistic viewpoints.

Some may think that the connection between global warming and health care/health freedoms is, at best, tenuous. I don’t agree with that view. Moreover, as with any big push in the media, I continue to ask myself the following question: Who is profiting from the global warming scare? It’s a question that bears answering, and I intend to keep my eyes on it. So yes, you can expect that I will continue to cover and write about global warming, as well as other issues seemingly not related to health. Yet first and foremost this newsletter will always be devoted to health itself. I hope you understand this and feel free to pick and choose what to read in each issue of the The Health Plus Letter.

(Caveat: I am the first to admit that my views about global warming may be wrong. Currently, I don’t perceive that to be the case. Yet I hold the right to change my mind based on new information that may be revealed in the future. Therefore, don’t take me at my word; take the time to educate yourself, just as I hope you do when it comes to your health.)

Websites:
http://www.biodecoding.com - This is the official US home of a new approach to healing known as BioDecoding. I am not familiar with it, yet its underlying premise is precisely what I regard as the truth about both health and disease. According to the website, BioDecoding “establishes, in a simple and logical language, the missing link between biology, neurology, psychology, emotions and genetics.” Moreover, since BioDecoding draws, in part, on the work of Dr. Rycke G. Hamer, whose pioneering research in cancer greatly impresses me, I am very interested in learning more about it. If any of my readers have experienced it, please let me know.

http://www.vitamins-nutrition.org - A useful site for information about the health benefits provided by vitamins and other supplements.

http://www.naturalhealthvillage.com - An excellent website helmed by Peter Barry Chowka that features regular links to health news as well as well-worth reading articles by Chowka and others. I highly recommend that you read the current article about what is happening to alternative medicine (which tipped me off to Dr. Weil’s support of Gardasil), as well as the articles that follow below it.

http://909shot.com - The home of the National Vaccine Information Center and an excellent source of information on the health risks posed by many vaccines.

http://www.nexusmagazine.com/articles/VaccineResearcher.html- This link takes you to an excellent interview conducted by Jon Rappoport that reveals facts about vaccine that Big Pharma would prefer you didn’t know about. It also debunks the CDC’s annual inflated hype that the flu “kills 36,000 Americans each year,” by revealing the CDC’s own statistics, which prove that this simply is not the case. (Be forewarned, Nexus magazine also covers things like conspiracy theories and UFOs, offering quite a range of articles. Some of them are nothing short of kooky; most aren’t, and Rappoport’s definitely is not.)

Global Warming links
http://www.nexusmagazine.com/articles/climate.html- The article found at this link was written in 2002 and documents how even then the UN’s IPCC panel was selectively doctoring data to suit their needs, i.e., make global warming seem like an imminent threat. They’ve done the very same thing with their recently released report as well, issuing the summary before the actual science (an examination of the former reveals that the dire claims in the summary that have subsequently trumpeted throughout the world are inflated from what the actual science says). The question to ask about all of this is: What need is there for such blatant distortion of the data and who profits by it?

http://www.intelligencesquaredus.org/TranscriptContainer/GlobalWarming-edited%20version%20031407.pdf - For anyone interested, this link will call up a 79 page PDF file transcript of a debate on whether or not global warming is a crisis. It features 6 leading proponents of either side of the issue (3 for each side, including Michael Crichton, who like me, believed it was a crisis until he actually started to explore the issue).

http://ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=258678873299154 - Yet another link debunking the theory that man is causing global warming, including research showing a direct and long-term correlation between solar activity and warming of the Earth. You’ll also find a host of other articles on the subject here: http://ibdeditorials.com/FeaturedTopics.aspx#globalwarming (be sure to read the one entitled “Carbon Offsets: Al Gore's Big Easy,” which exposes how Al Gore profits from his alarmist stance and, ironically, reveals George W. Bush, at least at home, to be very eco-friendly, in stark contrast to Gore himself.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_21b7mdJz2M&mode=related&search= - This links to an 8 minute film that takes Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth to task, exposing the various fallacious statements that are made to scare viewers into believing a crisis is on the horizon. Very informative and backed by scientific citations, until the very end, when it heaps personal attacks on Gore himself. Still, it’s well worth viewing.

- Since its airing, The Great Global Warming Swindle that I wrote about last week has been vigorously attacked by the pro-global warming crowd. Expecting such a backlash, the film’s director waited till all the arguments against it were made. Then he replied. What he said is at this link and it definitely bears reading. http://www.alternet.org/envirohealth/49025/ - This excellent article exposes the fraud that is called carbon offsets, which Al Gore touts and profits from, and which he and Clinton saw to it was included as a basic plank of the Kyoto Protocol, which Bush has thankfully rejected (remember, I’m vigorously opposed to Bushco on most issues).

Fear sells, after all. My hat’s off to the parents that object to this nonsense.

And finally, for those of you who really want to delve into both sides of this issue, here’s an excellent link that will take you to many stories debunking and supporting the global warming crisis. I hope one day the US press does something similar:

Reader Feedback (Still More on Global Warming)

Mary M wrote:

“You need to check out your sources before you recommend a film like, "The Great Global Warming Swindle". I would urge you to read these websites and stop passing on this propaganda. The Great Global Warming Swindle was based on graphs that were distorted, mislabelled or just plain wrong. The graphs were nevertheless used to attack the credibility and honesty of climate scientists.

To which I replied:

Dear Mary - thank you for taking the time to write me. I greatly appreciate it, as well as the links you sent me, all of which I have now read. However, overall, I still find the The Great Global Warming Swindle a worthwhile film. Does it contain propaganda? Perhaps. Yet certainly not any more than the many gross distortions that can be found in An Inconvenient Truth. Moreover, the complaints cited by the scientist in TGGWS who now claims the producers weren't straight with him don't seem as serious, given the actual email exchanges between him and the producers, which you can find online as well. Additionally, despite his complaints, he does not dispute what I also feel is the case: namely that no one can say for certain that manmade CO2 is the primary cause of the rise in global temperature. That being the case, it makes no sense to me and everyone else in the so-called "deniers" camp [how nice that the pro-global warming advocates have even framed the name of those who don't agree with them!] to rush into questionable solutions that will cost enormous sums of money [$558 trillion - yes, trillion with a T - according to one estimate], especially when consensus science, as Albert Einstein pointed out, is not science at all. The debate on global warming is not over and it's completely dishonest for anyone to claim that it is.

Now back to the links you sent. I regularly read The Guardian and the Independent online and appreciate both newspapers as much better sources of news than what is typically provided in US media. (I don't agree with The Guardian's leftist slant, however.) It was George Monbiot's op-ed piece that most interested me, as I happen to respect and agree with him on other issues. However, anyone who tries to bolster his argument by claiming in the same breath that there is no evidence that homeopathy works or that the MMR vaccine has no link to increased autism rates, immediately loses credibility with me. As you know, both of these claims are made by Monbiot in his opinion piece to bolster his rejection of The Great Global Warming Swindle. And on both cases he is wrong, as I know from my many years writing about and researching health issues. Homeopathy most definitely works, many times seemingly miraculously, if administered by a skilled homeopath (a rare breed in this country). I've seen the proof firsthand, as well as the studies that support its efficacy as a valid health treatment. As for the MMR-autism link, while I feel it is certainly telling that autism rates shot up immediately after combination vaccines such as MMR came on the scene, I agree that so far no definitive proof has been shown to either confirm or deny that link. Based on circumstantial evidence alone, though, it's impossible to dismiss the likelihood that there is a significant link, and that further debate and testing is called for. So far, however, that is being resisted by the powers that be (Big Pharma especially, since they produce the vaccines). Similarly, the vast majority of global warming dissenters (we are not deniers, since no one reputable has come forth to say that the earth currently is not undergoing a warming trend; we simply say that such trends are natural, have existed throughout the life of the planet, and are due to many factors, not manmade CO2 alone) are simply asking that the debate on global warming be continued and handled by actual scientists, not UN bureaucrats and others, Al Gore included, who have already been found guilty of jettisoning facts when it doesn't suit them. Do these same unethical acts occur on the dissenting side. Sadly, I suspect they do. All the more reason for Gore et. al. to stop claiming that the debate is over and consensus achieved.
