Quote Of The Day

“When the ship of your spirit hits the reef of matter, it’s the reef that’s smashed to pieces.” – Richard Bach

Fast Fact

According to Native American healing traditions, all dis-ease arises from four root causes: fear, hatred, jealousy and grief.

Protect Yourself From Energy Pollution With the BioElectric ShieldTM.
Energy pollution is all around us in the fo/rm of harmful electromagnetic frequencies and radiation (EMFs and EMR) emitted by power lines, cells phones, computers, and many other so-called modern conveniences. By wearing the BioElectric Shield pendant, you can protect yourself from the harmful effects of EMFs and EMR. To obtain a BioElectricShield, visit http://www.mcssl.com/app/aftrack.asp?afid=408491. Consumer Alert:The Greatest Vitamin In the World?

If you live in the United States, doubtless you’ve seen the information that features Don Lapre touting what he calls “The Greatest Vitamin in the World.” So have I. Repeatedly. Until a few weeks ago, I would simply change the TV channel without watching. But finally my curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to watch the infomercial in its entirety. Though I was unimpressed by Lapre’s obvious sal.es pitch, the information related to the actual manufacture of his vitamin product intrigued me. After learning more about it online, I decided to try it for myself. Big mistake (although I expected as much to begin with). Here’s what happened.

Soon after signing up for the program, I received a call from a representative of the company, telling me that as part of the program, I was to be given my own website to promote the vitamin. He then proceeded to give me the website address to use. Within days, it was no longer accessible. I was then instructed to call the company’s technical support line. So I did. Only to be told that the website came up on their server. I told the woman I spoke with that this was because the site was hosted on their company’s own internal server, but neither I nor others I asked to try it could access it. I was then put on hold while she spoke with her supervisor. She then came back on the line to say he could access the site too. Rather than fix the problem (non-access of the site by myself and anyone else), the “technical support” I was offered was that she would be willing to email me the link to the very website that I told her didn’t work.

Wait, it gets worse. First of all, the vitamin product itself, which Lapre touts was created after “mil.lions of dollars of research,” a statement that further research on my part proved is blatantly untrue (where did Lapre get mil.lions to fund the research given the fact that he has repeatedly filed for bank.ruptcy, listed his debts to be far greater than his assets?), retails for $39.95 plus $8.95 in shipping costs (a blatant ripoff in itself). Needless to say, I didn’t order the product.

I then decided to research the person credited with developing the formula in Lapre’s infomercial (apparently, in the newer versions, he’s no longer mentioned). His name is Doug Grant. Turns out, among other things, he was arrested last year and charged with murdering his wi.fe (I could not find further information about this, but here’s a link reporting his arrest:
http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/index.php?sty=44617). You can’t make this stuff up. All in all, Grant is a suspicious character whose credentials as a so-called “nutritionist” are suspect, despite the fact that, in addition to his association with Lapre, he also runs three other vitamin companies.

There are a lot of claims made by Lapre of the mon.ey that can be earned by marketing his product, and they seem to be true. As long as your name is Don Lapre. Because the real nature of this “business” is not selling vitamins, but paying all sorts of additional fees to his company to promote the websites he provides. Fees which, for anyone gullible enough to try them, cost thousands of dollars.

Long story short, “The Greatest Vitamin in the World” is a terrible scam that gives a bad name to the many worthwhile nutritional products that legitimately work. Fortunately, I only risked $35 to investigate this for my readers. N.o.w that you know what I found out, I encourage you to stay clear of anything Lapre or Doug Grant market. If you are seeking truly worthwhile nutritional health products, consult with a nutritionally-oriented physician and visit your local health food store. You can also try Dr. Garry Gordon’s nutritional products, which he has developed after many years of research. You’ll find a link to them at my website (
www.1healthyworld.com). I particularly recommend Garry’s Beyond C vitamin C powder, and his multivitamin/mineral formulas, Essential Daily Defense and Beyond Chelation. They are more expensive than other products, but from my own experience (I’ve used Beyond C and Beyond Chelation regularly for years), they really work.

Self-Care Tips for Dealing with Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are characterized by enlarged, swollen, elongated, and/or twisted and bent veins. In the initial stages of varicose veins, the affected veins become more tense and stiff. This is discernible by touch, but cannot be seen. As the condition progresses, the veins become more enlarged and twisted, appearing as bluish, blackish elevations above the rest of the surrounding skin. Other symptoms, which are not directly related to the size or degree of the varicose veins, can include aches in the surrounding area, leg fatigue, itching, burning, or heat that seems relieved by elevating the legs or wearing stockings that compress the legs. The most common sites of varicose veins are the back of lower leg, the calves, and along the inside of the lower and upper legs.

In addition to varicose veins that occur on the legs, other types of varicose veins include varicocele (varicose veins in the scrotum), hemorrhoids (varicose veins in the anus), and esophageal varices (varicose veins in the esophagus).

Causes

The primary causes of varicose veins are nutritional deficiencies, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, smo.king, regular standing for extended periods at a time, pregnancy, and hormonal changes at pregnancy or menopause.

Self-Care

Aromatherapy:
Add cypress as essential oil to baths. Lavender, juniper, rosemary, and lemon essential oils can be massaged around the affected areas (do not massage the veins directly).

Diet: Eat an organic, whole foods diet that emphasizes lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, as well as plenty of pure, filtered water. The following foods can be especially helpful: fresh organic berries and cherries, organic citrus fruits, buckwheat, millet, garlic, and onions. Also eat plenty of fish and minimize your red meat intake. In addition, avoid unhealthy fats, refined carbohydrates, sugar, salt, alcohol, fried foods, processed and refined foods, and milk and dairy products.

Herbs: Combine equal parts of the tinctures of hawthorn, ginkgo, prickly ash, and yarrow and take one teaspoon of this mixture three times a day. Topically, you can also apply a lotion made of ten parts distilled witch hazel and one part tincture of horse chestnut to help ease any discomfort. Cayenne pepper and ginger root are also recommended.

Homeopathy: Useful homeopathic remedies include Calc fluor., Hamamelis, Pulsatilla, Calc carb., and
Carbo veg.

Hydrotherapy: Cold compresses applied to the affected veins can soothe painful symptoms.

Juice Therapy: Excellent juicing remedies include the following combinations: carrot, celery, and parsley; carrot, spinach, and turnip; carrot, beet, and cucumber; carrot, celery, and spinach; and watercress.

Lifestyle: Wear support stockings and exercise regularly. Walking barefoot as much as possible is also excellent.

Nutritional Supplementation: Recommended nutrients include vitamin C with bioflavonoids, vitamin B complex, vitamin, B6, vitamin D3, vitamin E, calcium, folic acid, magnesium, lecithin, essential fatty acids, proteolytic enzymes (taken away from meals), and rutin.

Professional Care: If your symptoms persist despite the above measures, seek the help of a qualified health professional. The following professional care therapies have all been shown to be useful for treating varicose veins: Acupressure, Acupuncture, Bodywork, Chelation Therapy, Detoxification Therapy, Energy Medicine, Enzyme Therapy, Magnetic Field Therapy, Naturopathic Medicine, Oxygen Therapy, Prolotherapy, Reflexology, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Community Supported Agriculture:Resources for Finding Organic Foods

Given that diet is one of the primary foundations upon which to build good health, there is no excuse for not eating the healthiest foods available. In recent years, this has become easier to do, thanks to the growth of the organic farm/food markets, which has resulted in even large grocery chains today featuring organic food sections. Local farmers markets are another way of obtaining quality foods. A third option is the movement towards community supported agriculture (CSA). I strongly encourage you to get involved with CSA if you can. Not only will doing so enable you to find quality foods at very reasonable prices, but you will also help local, small farms sustain themselves in the face of ever-increasing competition from the commercial, industrial farms that dominate America’s food market. To help you get started, he.re are a variety of websites you can use.

Book:
At Face Value by Terry Healey.
This book is an inspiring account of the authors struggles to cope with a terrible facial disfiguration that occurred as a result of a rare type of cancer that developed inside his nose when he was 20 years old. Despite years of surgical procedures to reconstruct his face, Healey nev/er lost hope and today, nearly 20 years later, he is a successful, happily married businessman and motivational speaker. By reading what he went through, we can all learn more about the importance of a positive attitude (prayer and visualization played big roles in his ability to cope with all he endured), and the love and support of family and friends during life crises. Just as importantly, it’s an excellent guide to the harm we cause ourselves and others by being judgmental.

The following links will take you to websites and articles that I found very interesting, and which I think you will be interested in too.

I highly recommend that you read it.

Reader Feedback

A reader accused me of Bush-bashing after I ran the article about the proven link between cancer and depleted uranium (see http://www.1healthyworld.com/ezine/vol4no11.cfm). As I pointed out in my reply to him, in my comments about that article I also made clear that both Bush’s father and Bill Clinton also authorized the use of depleted uranium (DU), so I was not intentionally being partisan. As far as I’m concerned, the use of DU is criminal regardless of whatever rationale is given in support of it (all of which conveniently overlook the fact that US troops who use such weaponry are among those who develop cancer and other highly debilitating illnesses).

But to return to the question of whether or not I am a Bush-basher, the answer is yes, I very much am. Not because I find the Democrats to be a worthier party than the Republicans. I don’t. (My view is that, with few exceptions on both sides of the aisle, both parties are extremely corrupt and serve the interests of multinational corporation, not the American people – a disturbing recent proof of this is the fact that Hillary Clinton is currently the recipient of the most campaign contributions donated by Big Pharma this year – and once you get past each party’s rhetoric, it’s easy to see that there is very little that separates them from each other.) But because Bush and those in power within his administration strike me as being far more vile than their predecessors, which is saying a lot, given the dishonesty exhibited by just about every presidential administration in my life/time (President Carter being the sole exception, although he was, aside from human rights, not effective while in office, yet has very much redeemed himself with his humanitarian efforts ever since). Following the White House’s lead, the Republican dominated Congress has been just as bad. All to the detriment of we the people’s (and by this, I mean all people of all nations) health, safety, and well-being.

Given the increasingly grave situations taking place around the world today, it greatly concerns me that our current president is very much asleep at the wheel. But it doesn’t surprise me, since Bush has been a failure at everything he’s involved himself in prior to taking office, and has a long history of callous disregard for those not born into the same privileges that he has been (including his disgraceful, giggling mimicry of a mentally retarded inmate who was put to death while he was governor of Texas). If any doubts remained about his incompetence, surely they were put to rest during last week’s G8 meeting, when he was caught on microphone making the following comments, as reported by The Washington Post, hardly a bastion of liberal news:

<< The camera is focused elsewhere and it is not clear whom Bush is talking to,

but possibly Chinese President Hu Jintao, a guest at the summit. Bush: Gotta go home. Got something to do tonight. Go to the airport, get on the airplane and go home. How about you? Where are you going? Home? This is your neighborhood. It doesn't take you long to get home. How long does it take you to get home?

Reply is inaudible.

Bush : "Eight hours? Me too. Russia's a big country and you're a big country." At this point, the president seems to bring someone else into the conversation. “It takes him eight hours to fly home…It takes him eight hours to fly home. Eight hours. Russia's big and so is China.” British Prime Minister Tony Blair approaches. Bush : “Yo, Blair, what are you doing? …”>>

But, as the reader who wrote me said, he subscribes to The Health Plus Letter for health news, not political commentary. I agree with him. Still, whenever our elected leaders and/or the corporations they serve engage in policies that affect our health, I intend to alert you about it. And when I do, my primary reason for doing so will be to expose threats to our health, not pick on any particular politician or political party.
