Blocking A Promising Cancer Treatment: Murder At The U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI) by Jon Rappoport
Daniel Haley's brilliant book, Politics in Healing, recounts how NCI's 1991 clinical trial of the innovative and "alternative" cancer medicine, hydrazine sulfate, was rigged.
Rigged to fail.
A spectacularly promising medicine, hydrazine sulfate had shown good results in trials at Harbor/UCLA hospital and in Russia. NCI felt obligated to test the drug. But there was a catch. The drug's discoverer, Dr. Joseph Gold, had found that hydrazine sulfate reacted badly if patients were taking other drugs, especially tranquilizers. Several warnings were given to NCI before it began its test. The warnings were explicit. Patients could die if they were taking tranquilizers.
It turned out that none of the NCI patients were warned about this. It turned out that 94 percent of those patients were in fact on tranquilizers.
Barry Tice, an invest.igator for the US General Accounting Office (GAO), looked into the NCI trial of hydrazine sulfate after it was over. He called Dr. Gold and told him he had found a "smoking gun." There was an internal NCI memo which showed that NCI was well aware of the problems involved in the drug combinations.
The GAO did not back up its own invest.igator. The final GAO report on the NCI clinical trials of hydrazine sulfate simply accused NCI of sloppy bookkeeping.
In the June 1995 issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology, a letter from the NCI was published. The letter stated that NCI had omitted mentioning, in its own published account of its cancer study, that 94% of the patients had been on tranquilizers. But, because this letter did NOT mention how dangerous that situation was, it looked like NCI was simply admitting to a technical and unimportant mistake. A clerical error.
So what did happen to the patients in the NCI hydrazine sulfate study?
They all died.
The drug, hydrazine sulfate, was judged to be totally ineffective, and thus a competitor for chemotherapy dollars was eliminated. Hydrazine sulfate is a cheap, widely available, unpatentable substance. No pro/fit there.
Was this story splashed across the front pages of major newspapers in America? Did the "great men" of television, those holy anchors, insist on covering it with the emphasis it deserved? Of course not.
The story was originally dug out and published in Penthouse, by reporter Jeff Kamen, who should have won a Pulitzer for it, but won nothing.
And NCI has a rule that none of its patients in clinical trials can have their names revealed.
(There are other substances and foods which are incompatible with hydrazine sulfate and may cause great harm and death. One should know all about this before deciding to experiment with the drug.)
There is more to this incred.ible story. Penthouse publisher Bob Guccione's wi/fe, Kathy Keeton, who was the founder of Longevity, a magazine that was part of the Guccione empire, was diagnosed with "galloping breast cancer" in 1995. She was given 6 weeks to live. She refused chemotherapy and became a very high-profile case of a person taking hydrazine sulfate instead.
She also chose radiation to reduce one of her many tumors--a growth around her bile duct. Dr. Gold said the dose of radiation should be small, because hydrazine sulfate would enhance the effect of the radiation. But the radiologist gave her the full dose instead, burned her liver and caused later scarring.
Overall, Keeton recovered. In fact, a year after her predicted death date, her cancer was in full remission. The hydrazine sulfate was a remarkable success. Guccione ran ads in Penthouse, asking for families of the dead victims in the NCI experiment to come forward and join a class-action suit against NCI. Guccione estimated there had been 600 victims in the NCI clinical test.
In October 1997, Kathy Keeton went into a major and well-respected New York City hospital for surgery. From all accounts, this operation had nothing to do with cancer. Amazingly, complications occurred. She died. Most of America assumed she had succumbed to cancer. Further "proof" that hydrazine sulfate did not work.
Predictably, the FDA has gotten into the act. On April 23, 1998, that criminal agency raided a distributor of hydrazine sulfate, Great Lakes Metabolics, in Rochester, Minnesota. In 2000, the FDA shut down the company that supplies hydrazine sulfate to Great Lakes, and Great Lakes went out of business.
In 1996, when hydrazine sulfate was still very much in the public spotlight, Dr. Gold states he received 20 pho.ne calls in one day from doctors at Sloan Kettering, the world's number one center for toxic chemotherapy research and treatment. These doctors wanted to obtain hydrazine sulfate on the sly for their patients. Gold states that roughly 2/3 of the patients were from the doctors' families. And six of these doctors had refused to give hydrazine sulfate to other patients at Sloan Kettering. The phrase scum of the Earth comes to mind.
Author Haley offers a dozen patient testi.monials re: hydrazine sulfate. They are anecdotes, to be sure, but they are remarkable.Example: "Oncologist report in today. No cancer anywhere, after two and a half months on hydrazine sulfate and vitamins/minerals and supplements. They have no idea where cancer went."
Example: "Seven weeks on hydrazine sulfate. Brain and lung lesions disappeared."
Example: "I purchased some hydrazine sulfate for my sister a few weeks ago. Too early to tell, but she went from near death at the hospital on chemo to a campground some place, with a fishing pole."
I don't make recommendations for medicines. Hydrazine sulfate studies at Harbor/UCLA and in Russia did not cure everyone, not by a long shot. Of course, there are quest.ions about those protocols too, because ordinary foods like raisins are incompatible with hydrazine sulfate—and who knows what the patients were fed. And, on top of that, no well-designed studies have ever been done using hydrazine sulfate on patients in early stages of cancer, where the results might be even better.
Hydrazine sulfate has been defamed by monsters. "First do no harm" has been turned into "destroy." Those responsible for this terrible crime should be arrested, shackled, and shown on national television on the steps at NCI. NCI should be closed and fumigated.
More notes on hydrazine sulfate:
One session of conventional chemotherapy costs enough to pay for 10 years of treatment with hydrazine sulfate.
In 1973, a doctor with a terminal Hodgkins patient approached Dr. Gold for help. Gold recommended a dosage level. In a few weeks, the patient was up and around, not dead. By October of 1973, 1000 patients in the U.S. were on hydrazine sulfate.
Dean Burke, head of cell chemistry at NCI, said in 1974 that hydrazine sulfate was "the most remarkable anticancer agent I have come across in my 45 years experience in cancer...this material is so cheap because it is made by the trainload for industrial purposes."
In September 1973, Sloan Kettering (SK), the most prestigious cancer center in the world, started a hydrazine sulfate study on terminal patients. The lead physician, Dr. Manuel Ochoa, had agreed to give each patient 60 mg a day for 3 days and then 60 mg 3 times a day after that—but Dr. Gold learned Ochoa was changing the protocol drastically—he was giving 1 mg the first day, then 2 mg the next day, and so on, building up to a top of 30 mg—except in some cases he actually gave patients 120-190 mg a day—brutal overdoses.
In 1975 SK announced hydrazine sulfate was worthless.
Dr. Gold then did a study for Calbiochem, a drug company. 70% of 84 patients gained wei.ght and had less pain. Hydrazine sulfate was, in fact, designed to alleviate wasting away in the first place. 17% of the patients showed tumor regression or a stabilization of their condition for one year.
In 1975, Russian researchers published two positive study findings on hydrazine sulfate.
In 1976, the American Cancer Society (ACS) put hydrazine sulfate on its dreaded blacklist of "unapproved" cancer treatments. ACS neglected to mention it owned 50% of a competing and highly toxic cancer drug, 5FU.
By 1978, the FDA was cracking down on hydrazine sulfate. 5000 patients in the US were on the medicine. The FDA falsely stated that hydrazine sulfate caused bone marrow toxicity. In fact, conventional chemo—approved by the FDA—destroys bone marrow.
Jeff Kamen, the reporter who got the hydrazine sulfate story out in Penthouse? He.re is how he became interested in the first place. His mother Erna came back from cancer with hydrazine sulfate. She gained 23 pounds and was doing much better. Then her doctor convinced her to stop hydrazine sulfate and go on an experimental chemotherapy drug. In five days, she was dead.

[Note: I am well aware of this story, and have in the past spoken with Dr. Joseph Gold. By running this article, I am not claiming that hydrazine sulfate is a cure for cancer. Rather, I am pointing out that it in the past exhibited great promise as an anticancer agent, caused no side effects when administered according to Dr. Gold’s protocol, and was available for about $3.00 a week. For all of those reasons, the NCI, the FDA and Sloan Kettering sabotaged research that potentially would have proven its efficacy. This is hardly the first time they have done so with regard to promising alternative cancer treatments. Nor is it likely to be the last.

The Importance of pH to Your Health (Part 3)
DETERMINING YOUR pH
While there are a number of tests available for measuring pH levels in the body, let’s focus on two testing procedures. The first is the venous plasma pH test, which can provide you with an accurate reading of your blood’s pH level. The second is a self-test that can be easily done at home. It involves the use of pH strips. Although it does not provide specific pH measurements, it offers a strong indication of your acidic-alkaline balance.
Venous Plasma pH Test
The venous plasma pH test accurately measures the pH of your blood. It requires that you see a physician. The doctor withdraws a vial of bottle from the vein in your arm, and then sends the blood to a licensed laboratory for testing. Should you decide to have this test perfo.rmed, be sure that you request that the measurement be made to the nearest one-hundredth of a percentage point, for example, 7.36 or 7.25, not 7.3 or 7.2. This will provide a more precise reading of your blood pH than if the measurement is only to a tenth of a percentage point.
Because of how important blood pH levels are to your overall health, you should consider making the venous plasma pH test part of your annual physical che.ck-up. Since it is not commonly administered as part of such che.ck-ups, be sure to ask your physician for it when you schedule your appointment. The additional cost is nominal (less than $100 depending on the lab your physician uses), and the info.rmation the test provides can literally be life-saving.
The pH Strip
You can also perfo.rm a simple home pH test using pH strips, which are usually available at your local drugstore. Some health food stores may also carry them. pH strips are made of litmus paper, which changes color when it comes in contact with alkaline and acidic substances. Included with your purchase will be a color chart that will help you to gauge your pH.
The strip will turn one of three shades of color when you perfo.rm the test: yellow, which indicates over-acidity, blue (or red, depending on the manufacturer of the strips), which indicates over-alkalinity, and green, which indicates a neutral or balanced pH reading. The color shading is important. The deeper, or more intense, the shading is, the more extreme is your pH reading. For example, a light yellow shade is an indication of less serious over-acidity, whereas a deep shade of yellow indicates a more serious problem. In actuality, both shadings indicate that the pH is out of balance and overly acidic, but the brighter shade of yellow is a sign of a more serious imbalance.
You can use pH strips to test the pH levels of both your urine and salvia. However, since the pH of saliva can have a wide variance, it is recommended that you test your urine instead. As mentioned above, your kidneys are one of the organs used by the body to eliminate acids. When your body is in or near a state of acid-alkaline balance, urine pH will normally be 7.0 to 7.5 (pH strips do not measure pH values as closely as a blood pH test does). This indicates that your kidneys are excreting normal levels of acids. But when higher than normal amounts of acids are being eliminated, it means that your body is overly acidic. This will be reflected in the measurement shown on the pH strip. Similarly, if less than normal levels of acids are being excreted, the pH reading will indicate over-alkalinity.
Since urine pH values can change during the day in reaction to the foods you eat, the best time to measure urine pH is in the morning soon after you’ve awakened, and before your have your morning meal. It is easy to perfo.rm the test. Simply take a pH strip and moisten it with your urine as you urinate. A quick dip into your urine stream is all that is necessary. As the acid content of your urine reacts with the pH strip, it will change color according to how acidic or alkaline your urine pH is.
Remember, a urine pH test does not provide as accurate an indication of your body’s internal acid-alkaline balance, but it can help you get a better sense of how acidic or alkaline your body is. To get a better idea of the state of your body’s pH, it is recommended that you perfo.rm this test for five mornings in a row. If your reading is consistently within the range of 7.0-7.5, your body is in a fairly healthy state of acid-alkaline balance. Consistent readings below 7.0 are a good indication that your body is overly acidic.
Interestingly, consistent readings above 7.5 do not necessarily mean your body is overly alkaline. Consistent pH readings above 7.5 can mean one of three things. The first possibility is that your body’s internal environment is in a healthy state of acid-alkaline balance or is only slightly alkaline. This is likely to be the case if you regularly consume foods that have an alkalizing effect on the body, and limit your consumption of acid-producing foods, such as meats and dairy products. Or the reading could be due to supplementing with alkaline mineral supplements that your body has little use for. In this first case, a urine pH reading above 7.5 does not indicate imbalance or disease.
Nonetheless, some precautions are advisable. For example, if you are following a vegetarian diet, you should be careful to avoid dietary deficiencies that can be caused by lack of protein from animal products (as well as vitamin deficiencies, such as vitamin B12, which is a common hazard of a strict vegetarian diet). If you are supplementing with alkalizing supplements, it might also be advisable to reduce your intake of them, or to stop taking them altogether.
The second possibility for urine pH readings consistently above 7.5 is far more serious, especially if you are not following an alkalizing diet or taking alkalizing supplements. Such high readings could indicate an imbalance in your endocrine system, which governs the manufacture and regulation of hormones. In particular, a higher pH reading might indicate adrenal or parathyroid gland problems. Or it could be an indication that another fo.rm of illness is present. Though such occurrences are rare, it would be wise to consult with your physician to determine if you are at risk for such problems if your pH readings are consistently above 7.5.
In what might seem to be a paradox, the third possibility for consistently high pH readings is that your body is still acidic. If this is the case, it is very likely that you also have difficulty digesting and metabolizing acids. This makes it difficult for your body to oxidize these acids, thus preventing them from being eliminated through respiration. As a result, your kidneys are faced with a greater burden, since more acids are left for them to excrete.
Your kidneys can only eliminate a certain amount of acids each day. Once this capacity is met, excess acid stores start to accumulate in your body, forcing it to draw upon its alkaline reserves to neutralize it. Residues of these alkaline minerals get deposited in the urine, thus accounting for the higher pH readings. If this is the case, it is vital that you do all you can to restore your body’s internal acid-alkaline balance, because you are most likely on the road to disease.
This third possibility regarding a high urine pH reading is actually fairly common in our society. To help you better determine if you fall into this category, consider whether you are also suffering from the following symptoms, all of which are common in a state of chronic acidosis. If your are experiencing only one or two such symptoms, your body is not necessarily too acidic, but if more than a few symptoms are present, most likely you fall into this third category.

Self-Care Tips for Hair Loss
Partial or complete hair loss is called alopecia. It usually occurs on the scalp, but can also occur elsewhere on the body, including the eyebrows. The patterns of alopecia can vary, as well.
The most common type of hair loss is called male pattern bald/ness, also known as hereditary alopecia or androgenic alopecia, meaning it is more common in men and is usually inherited. In this condition, hair is lost from the crown and temples and is often replaced by a more fine, downy type of hair. Female-pattern bald/ness, a variation of hereditary alopecia, can also strike women, especially after menopause. The incidence of female-pattern bald/ness is on the rise.
Another fo.rm of hair loss, known as alopecia areata, refers to a sudden loss of circular areas of hair for no apparent reason or as a result of systemic disease. Alopecia universallis is another type of hair loss, in this case of hair over the entire body. This condition usually corrects itself, but it is prone to recurrences.
What To Consider
Hair loss can occur due to low thyroid functioning, poor digestion, parasites, nutrient deficiencies such as iron or biotin, hormonal problems, aging, trauma, post-pregnancy, skin disease, diabetes, chemotherapy, and stress. All of these factors must be considered and ruled out to be sure hair loss is not part of a more serious, underlying condition.
Caution: If you begin to lo.se large amounts of hair suddenly and for no apparent reason, seek prompt medical attention to rule out the possibility of an underlying disease.
Self-Care
Lifestyle: Circulation to the scalp is important and can help prevent hair loss. Increase exercise, scalp massage, and try lying on a slant board for 15 minutes a day.
Diet: Eat an organic, whole foods diet high in potato (with skins intact), green and red peppers, sprouts, and unpeeled cucumbers. Such foods are high in silica, which gives strength to hair and nails. Foods high in iron, such as some lean meats and raisins, are also important. Sea vegetables such as kelp are also good for the hair and support proper thyroid function. Be sure to che.ck for and eliminate any foods to which you may be allergic or sensitive.
Nutritional Supplementation: The following supplements are essential for healthy hair growth: flaxseed oil, biotin, niacin, vitamin B complex, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B5, PABA (para-aminobenzoic acid), silica, iron, trace minerals, and zinc. F/r/e/e fo.rm amino acids, especially cysteine, can also be helpful, as can kelp tablets, dessicated liver, and thyroid glandulars.
Although elevated levels of copper can lead to brittle hair and split ends, low copper levels can also result in hair loss, and should therefore also be considered.
Aromatherapy: For temporary or severe hair loss, massage lavender, rosemary, thyme, or sage essential oils directly onto the scalp.
Ayurveda: The Ayurvedic herbs ashwagandha and amla can help stimulate hair growth in cases that are not due to genetic predisposition.
Herbs: Massage the scalp nightly with an oil made of one part rosemary oil and two parts almond oil.
Homeopathy: Sepia, Arnica, and Acidum nit. are useful homeopathic remedies.
Juice Therapy: Drink the combined juice of carrot, beet, spinach, nettle, and alfalfa, adding a bit of onion.
Topical Treatment: Rub castor oil into the scalp for ten minutes, then apply a hot damp towel for 30 minutes, and then cover your head with a plastic show/er cap and keep in place overnight. The next morning, wash out your hair. Do this for two nights, then, repeat this using extra virgin olive oil for two nights, then use wheat germ oil for two nights. Rest one night and repeat seven-day cycle.
Apple cider vinegar used as a hair rinse can also help stimulate hair growth.

Movie
I don’t usually recommend movies in this newsletter, but am making an exception for The Constant Gardener, based on John Le Carre’s novel of the same name. By all accounts, it’s very faithful to the book, which examined the criminal, conspiratorial activities of a fictitious pharmaceutical company operating in Africa. (In his afterward to the book, Le Carre wrote that the facts he uncovered about Big Pharma during his research were far worse than the events he made up.)
