Quote Of The Day

We are presently on a 'path to failure.' We are not going to be able to sustain the deep economic burden that will be upon us if we don't break that cycle; the legacy we leave our children will be unsustainable. So, we must embrace prevention first.

Creating What You Want During Times of Challenge

Many of you, I’m sure, share my perception that events in the world are becoming increasingly volatile and precarious. Not only can we see this in our human endeavors, but also in the weather of late.

In such times, and faced with a steady influx of reports of global tragedies, economic uncertainties, political shenanigans (on both sides of the political aisle), and so forth, all brought to us “every hour on the hour” by a media obsessed with reporting negativity, it is easy to slip into despondency or a sense of “what’s the use?” futility. This is an all-too common and understandable reaction when times seem so uncertain and challenging. Yet such a reaction is guaranteed to only escalate the feelings of unease that provoked it.

I’m writing about this today because I am just as susceptible to such reactions as anyone else, and there is a lot that is currently unfolding in the world that I am unhappy about. Yet I’ve recognized that, for me at least, remaining upset, despondent, worried, angry, and so forth does absolutely nothing to change things. Instead, it only serves to drag me down in spirit, suppressing my energy and joy. With that realization, I’ve also recognized that I always have a choice in terms of my responses and how I react to the challenges we on our planet are all passing through. I cannot control world events, obviously, yet I can control how I choose to respond to them. And so can everyone else. And the key to doing so, of course, lies in being disciplined and conscious enough to choose to respond from a position of cause instead of effect.

In the many years that I’ve been exploring what healing is and how it occurs, I’ve grown increasingly aware of the interconnectedness of all Life and how inseparably I am a part of every other human being and all else of GOD’s creations. Moreover, I’ve slowly yet surely begun to grasp how, energetically, my thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and desires never occur in a vacuum, Instead, they go out into the “Web of Life,” emitting precisely the type of energy I am choosing to resonate with moment to moment. Often, I react unconsciously, so that energy may be one of anger, sorrow, despondency, and so forth. Yet, when I recognize what I’m doing, I instantly realize the foolishness of such reactions, for, in essence, all I am doing in those moments is further polluting the world with more negatively, and ensuring that it returns to me manifold. (What we think and feel returns to us in increased measure.) So, more than ever before, I am doing my best to focus on resonating with thoughts, beliefs, and emotions that are energetically positive. This by no means implies that I no longer get angry or sad. Of course not. Nor is getting angry or sad necessarily inappropriate. In fact, oftentimes, they are the most appropriate and positive emotions we can choose, and crucial to accepting and acting from our personal power. (For more on this subject, I highly recommend the eBook Mind Mastery Meditations by Dr. Valerie Hunt – see the link below.) The key is to feel the emotion while allowing it to run its course, instead of holding onto it all day. This helps me remain more energized and connected to the Higher Power that is available to each of us whenever we choose to call upon it.

In addition, I am discovering more and more how absolutely essential it is for me to remain focused on “the dream I would see as real,” meaning my goals and dreams, both for myself, and for the world. As Gandhi, St. Francis, and many other great teachers have said, in order to see the changes we desire in the world, we must first commit ourselves to being that change. If we want peace, we must be peaceful. If we want love, we must be loving. Choosing to act in this fashion is not easy and I fail at it all the time. Even so, I know that I cannot shirk my responsibility in this regard.

So, how can we remain anchored in our focus? For me, it all begins and ends with my imagination. By allowing myself to imagine what I want to create in my life—truly envisioning it in as much detail as I can—and holding it in my mind’s eye as if it is already my reality, I am discovering that I can more quickly and easily manifest my goals. Moreover, making a regular habit of practicing this kindles my emotions and keeps me buoyed in feelings of joy and happiness. This, in turn, provides me with greater energy, so that I am better able to keep working on all I need to do externally to “make my dreams come true.”

What does this have to do with being healthy? For me, quite a bit. The more that I focus on being healthy, the healthier and more energetic I find myself being. It’s really that simple. And that difficult. Which is precisely why some people are able to heal themselves of serious illness, including cancer, solely through the power of their visualizations. Those that succeed really get involved with the creative process that is required to activate the imagination in all of its glory.

For many of us, working with the imagination can present a huge challenge, simply because we have forgotten how to use it. Instead, we are more focused on doing what the world expects of us, with no time to set aside for “daydreaming.” In fact, we are trained to set aside daydreams—and with them, our imagination—almost from the time we are born. Yet, as children, most of us had vivid imaginations and thrilled ourselves with the so-called dream worlds our imaginings gained us entry into. We haven’t lost that ability. We’ve simply allowed it to run dormant.

This year, I am committing myself to change that and I invite you to join me by doing the same for yourself. Both collectively and on our own, let’s commit ourselves to making it a daily practice of envisioning our dreams coming through, knowing that, as we succeed, we will be sparking the flame of success in others all around us too (most of whom we may never even know—the energy we give out travels where it will).

I’ll have more to say about this in future issues. In the meantime, please feel free to share with me your thoughts about and experiences in this area. May all of our dreams be bold, emboldening us as we dream them …

Self-Care Tips for Preventing and Recovering From Blood Clots

Blood clots are clots (thrombi) of blood formed inside major blood vessels, which are the major cause of many heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular disorders.

Symptoms: Usually none.

Special Notes: Blood solidification, or clotting, usually occurs as a healthy response within minutes after the skin is cut or there is trauma that causes bleeding. A clot helps seal the damage. However, blood clotting can be dangerous if it is inside healthy blood vessels. Unhealthy clotting can occur from platelets that get “activated” to clump together. This occurs when platelets come in contact with damaged arterial walls, or due to nutrient deficiencies, poor dietary habits, or genetics. Once platelets get sticky, their shape changes and they easily mesh or clump together, causing a clot. Another factor is the production of fibrin, which helps bind the clump of platelets together. Fibrin is the end product of a cascade of coagulation (clumping) factors that occurs with the activation of just one molecule, which can lead to the explosion of up to 30,000 molecules of fibrin at the site of injury on the arterial wall.

Factors that may cause a buildup of platelet stickiness and fibrin are: birth control pills, late stages of pregnancy, nutrient deficiencies, smoking, free radicals (inadequate antioxidant nutrients), a high-cholesterol diet, low essential fatty acids, genetics, a diet high in saturated fat and low in vegetables and fish, and liver disease.

Some doctors and medical researchers have found that prolonged sitting on long airline flights, especially in cramped conditions, puts a person at risk for developing pulmonary thrombosis. Blood clots forming in the legs or another part of the body break loose and then block one of the arteries to the lungs. Some practical preventive measures include: getting up and walking the aisle every hour, wearing loose, comfortable clothing, periodically stretching the legs and tightening and loosening the muscles of the abdomen and buttocks, and taking some slow, deep breaths.

In studies done at Duke University, Salvatore V. Pizzo, M.D., showed that moderate exercise may help protect against heart attacks and strokes by enhancing the body’s natural mechanism for dissolving blood clots. In addition, Dr. Pizzo found that the higher risk of blood clotting in women taking oral contraceptives can be significantly reduced by exercise.

Self-Care

Diet: Foods that act to decrease platelet stickiness and fibrin formation are garlic, ginger, onions, and hot peppers (capsicum), which protect against heart attack and stroke. Use granulated garlic on food as a regular spice. Fish oils help to reduce clotting of blood. Increase consumption of cold-water fish at least three times per week. Decrease sucrose consumption as sugar intake increases platelet stickiness.

Nutritional Therapy: Nattokinase, a natural enzyme, has been shown to dissolve abnormal blood clots rapidly and safely, often within hours of first taking it. (For the most potent form of nattokinase, I recommend EndoKinase, developed by Dr. Garry Gordon and available at http://www.1healthyworld.com/healthproducts/garrygordon
.)

Other useful nutrients include: Vitamin B6 • Garlic capsules • Niacin (vitamin B3) • Lipotropic factors (nutrients useful for liver metabolism of fat) • Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids • Bromelain • Vitamin E may be useful in helping to dissolve blood clots • Vitamin C • Zinc • Magnesium • Manganese.

If you are on aspirin as daily preventive therapy, you may want to begin a gut rejuvenation program to stimulate healing and proper gastrointestinal wall functioning, in order to offset aspirin’s traumatization of the gut wall when taken on daily basis. It is a good idea to do a bowel cleanse and rejuvenation several times a year when on daily aspirin (consult your physician for guidance).

Herb/al Medicine: Hawthorne berry.

Homeopathy: Hamamelis.

Juice Therapy: Garlic, carrot, parsley, spinach, celery, beet.

Professional Care
The following therapies should only be provided by a qualified health professional: Environmental Medicine,  Naturopathic Medicine, Osteopathy, and Oxygen Therapy (Ozone autohemotherapy—treatment by reinjection of the individual’s own blood and intravenous hydrogen peroxide therapy).

Website

Foods that are high on the index cause blood sugar spikes and corresponding insulin imbalances, and have been linked to a variety of health disorders, including obesity and diabetes.

Books
Third Opinion, 4th edition by John M. Fink. I receive a lot of requests for information regarding viable alternative cancer treatments and the doctors and centers that are providing them. This excellent reference guide provides detailed listings of the best such sources, both h/e/re in the U.S. and abroad. Though the entries Fink includes are not in-depth, he provides readers with the information they need to make informed choices. Very highly recommended.

V For Vendetta by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. I am a big fan of comic books, and this book-length graphic novel is one of the best “non-superhero” tales of its kind—a brilliant tale of the power of the individual to overcome a bleak, fascist government. Thought-provoking and one of those books that I “couldn’t put down.”

That’s all for this week.

Health and Blessings!
